1 month

Sofia's one month birthday was yesterday! It is sometimes hard to believe she has only been with us for that short amount of time. It seems so much longer but that could be due to my sleep deprevation.

Last night Sofia and I went to my sister's house to see everyone. At one point Sofia was on the couch next to Amy. Amy was leaning over making funny faces at her. Then the following conversation happened between Mia and Amy:

Mia: "Amy, talk to her in Vietnamese."
Amy:"I don't know how to speak Vietnamese."
Mia: "Okay well speak to her in English--your language."
Amy: "I can't speak to her in English. She is Spanish."

Amy is always saying things that make me laugh.

July 16th-24th

This week:

Sofia met her cousin ,Gabriela, Tia Danielle,

Mimaw Barbara, and

Geraldine.

She took her first non-sponge bath and

spent time in her swing.

She wore green so she would match Papa and made funny newborn faces at him.

She also spent some time working on her Dr. Evil impersonation. The correct finger placment is giving her problems.

Kiki and Coco in Paris

I was browsing Design Mom's blog when I ran across a link for this slideshow. It was created by photographer Stephanie Rausser. It made me smile so much I had to share.
I wonder if Sofia will have a doll she brings everywhere. I had a coveted Cabbage Patch Doll when I was younger, but I don't recall bringing her everywhere. My niece, Amy, had a baby doll, Ugly Baby, she liked to bring with her. I hope to photograph Sofia doing little girl things with her favorite doll in the future.

July 9-15th

This week Sofia:
*warning: some events do not have pictures.

*decided she would see what it would be like to stay awake from 12-4 and drive Daddy crazy for 2 nights in a row.
*is back to her birth weight and has grown an inch.
*met her neighbors and future babysitters- the Liso Clan- Steve, Alex, Kat, and Fran.
*listened to the World Cup Final while Daddy watched it on TV.

*met Erin S. not cousin Erin. Erin made her a blanket. Sofia loves it.

*met Carlie, who has been waiting for her to arrive for 3 almost 4 months.

*allowed mommy and daddy to take a mini-photo shoot.

*found kicking her legs straight out while Daddy feeds her was relaxing.

*received her first kiss from Chewy during a feeding. Chewy jumped on the couch, kissed (ok licked) the back of her head, and jumped off the couch.

Sweet thing

Sofia Riley is here. I had to be induced due to high blood pressure and enjoyed an extended stay at the hospital. I could write all about it, but I know pictures are in demand.

Heading to the hospital.

With our "ninja" doctor and his little protege.
This is also our first family photo. I guess we never took one of just the three of us in the hospital. Oh well.

Conversation with Dr. La

My visits with Dr. La are pleasant. My pregnancy has progressed quite smoothly until the middle of May. I kept coming in with higher than normal blood pressure. Dr. La took my explanation of stress at work and waited until I began summer school. If the blood pressure didn't come back down. He was going to suggest I not work summer school. The first week of summer school, my blood pressure was back to normal so he let me stay. Well Tuesday, my blood pressure was extremely high. There wasn't any stress and he was very concerned. So this week I had to go back and visit with him again this morning. My blood pressure was lower and he was pleased with what he saw on the ultrasound. Then he was done and was preparing to leave the room. In the past right before he leaves, we say a quick good-bye and see you next week. That changed a little this morning.
Here is the end of today's visit:
*Whenever Dr. La speaks, he always has a calm tone.

Dr. La: "Okay, Honey, I will see you next week."

Yes, he calls me honey a lot. It doesn't bother me, because Christian says he looks like a ninja. The two aren't related but...

Me: "Okay. I will see you Tuesday. Tuesday is my day."

Dr. La: "Actually, you are going to see me Monday. I want to make sure your blood pressure doesn't go back up. I will be monitoring you more closely now."

Me: "Oh. Well, are you sure I will know when I am going into labor? I have a friend who has a friend and she was leaking fluid for days. How can I be sure?"
*Dr. La has already gone over all of this with me last week.

Dr. La: "You weren't leaking fluid today. Honey, trust me you will know when the contractions start. Remember what I said about the tightening."

Me: "Yes. I tried to see if I can tell a difference, but I don't think I can. Annnnddd, I have another friend who didn't know. She just had some back pain and just attributed it to the pregnancy. I have back pain at night. It doesn't come and go but I have it."

Dr. La: "Honey, trust me you will know. Remember, the pain will be about a 7. Your back pain is most likely from you carrying her around all day. Painless labor is very rare. I don't think you will have painless labor."

Me: "I am going to feel the pain, huh?"

Dr. La nods his head.

Me: "Well, I want to go to Miller Park tomorrow night. Do you think that is safe? What if my water breaks? What if I go into labor and get stuck in traffic?"

Dr. La: "As long as you feel okay, it should be okay for you to go.You aren't leaving Houston. If you are tired or your feet are really swollen you might want to stay home and rest."

Me: "Should I check my blood pressure at Kroger before I leave?"

Dr. La (now laughing): "Sure."

Me: "Should I go check it everyday?"

Dr. La: "That isn't neccessary."

Me: "So you are sure I will know?"

Dr. La: "Positive."

Me: "Okay. See you Monday."

I was thinking about this conversation while baking cookies* and realized I sound neurotic. I have not shown Dr. La this side of me. Monday he will probably use some of his ninja moves to sneak out of the room before I begin my neuroticism again.

* I will post the cookies tonight or tomorrow.
